Paprika – On “Your Name” by Makoto Shinkai

Is Makoto Shinkai a true heir to Myazaki? Are we seeing a movie with both Myazaki and Satoshi Kon`s brilliance in one disguise?
It is undeniable that the film is brilliant and it`s revolves so masterfully and fluidly around all the generic conventions of body-swap, disaster-movie and time-travel that you might even need to see it twice to understand the narration. But eventually what remains with you after Your Name is that huge momentum of lovestruck feelings which rushes through your vein, as if you were struck by a comet.
